I found the Yoga Journal article that included 72 yin yoga words for relax. It is: https://www.yogajournal.com/yoga-101/types-of-yoga/yin/yin-yoga-thesaurus/ And here's the table with 72 yin yoga words for relax. I know I will be using this to add some phrases to my restorative classes. Have a sunny day! dawn

I am originally from Michigan and that is the only state in the USA with both a lower and upper peninsula. If you ever get a chance to go to Mackinac Island which is in between the peninsulas, GO! It is beautiful and where the movie Somewhere in Time was filmed. The island is 8.2 miles around and a beautiful hike. The lower peninsula is in the shape of a mitten and folks often use their hand to show where they they live. Most use their right hand as the mitten and their left pointer finger to show on the right hand were they grew up or live currently. I grew up in a small town in "the thumb". One of the funniest medical lines I have ever heard that was actually dictated to a transcriptionist by a physician was "He had prostate surgery, up in the thumb area."

I tend to grip or hold my breath when I am in tree pose, especially when I lift my leg to place the bottom of my foot on my other leg. This is a challenging pose for me and I can place it on my thigh, but it often does not stay there. So I think I get anxious about it and hold my breath, which is the exact opposite of what I should do. Lately I have been trying to breath through it and place my foot on my lower leg instead of my thigh. That makes the pose easier for me; thus, my breath is more relaxed. It is another great example of meeting your body where it is at in the moment and embracing now and where I am at now. Practice not perfection is one of my many mottos!

I watch the NBC tv show New Amsterdam. It is about the oldest public hospital in NYC. A neurologist Vijay died and the episode starts with his memorial and someone saying, "A passing is not an ending." in the words of the Bhagavad Gita. If I had not been doing this YTT, I would not have known what the Bhagavad Gita is! Yeah me! I am growing and expanding my knowledge!

I Googled dharma and found--it translates to righteous living. For a person to follow her dharma, ALL (LOL!!??) she needs to do is follow that inner guidance. When I was listening to the videos from YTT weekend 5 Rachel's comment re if someone says they missed their child's game cause they had to work no one thinks anything of that, but if they said they stayed home and took a nap we might think bad thoughts about that. WHY??? That REALLY spoke to me as I am working on my self care. So yesterday I stayed home from yoga (I usually go to the 8 am class.) and spent the day taking care of me. I got A LOT of R and R time and did not do much schoolwork (I usually work some on the weekends.) or housework. I thought it was interesting that my hubby followed my lead (He works a lot and grew up on a dairy farm so he has the gotta milk the cows at 5 am and 5 pm and work 24/7 mentality.) and got some R and R also. I went to Emily's yoga and meditation class this morning and feel restored and ready to take on another busy week! I am very proud of myself for following my inner guidance! Here is to us all finding some self care this week, even if it is only 5 or 10 or 15 minutes! You deserve it and need it!

WOW! This 30 sequence booklet is VERY helpful! I am sure I will use this a lot in the future prepping for classes. Seated Sequence-I chose the Release Low Back Tension sequence. I liked that it started lying on the floor. I liked the use of a block for the core connector (sit up). And the next pose downward dog was a nice transition pose to go from the supine (belly up) to the prone (belly down) position. The low lunge quad stretch is very challenging for me due to my tight hamstrings so I modified that one. I also modified the next two twist poses and the ending child pose. My low back pain did feel better after this sequence and that is no surprise. I always feel better after yoga even if it is only for 5 or 10 minutes. Standing Sequence-I chose the Warrior 3 sequence. Boat is not one of my favorite poses. So it was good to do this sequence and practice both the full and half boat poses. I had to be careful going from the standing forward pose to the tree pose. I think I did it too quickly and got dizzy. Any sequence that includes half moon is one wonderful to me! I liked how this sequence incorporated all three warrior poses. My Choice-I chose the 30 minute morning yoga sequence because some days I do not have time to do a 60 or 75 minute class, but want to do some yoga. 30 minutes is better than no yoga. And my name is Dawn so of course I chose the morning sequence. LOL Again I modified the twist pose and low lunge quad stretch especially that early in the sequence. I liked that this sequence incorporated the entire body.

I enjoyed doing this exercise again and it did not feel as "weird" as the first time. It is so simple! I need to do more of this! I enjoyed the whole body stretch as it helped my aches and pains all over my body. The upper body focus alone was okay, but made me want to continue and do the lower body so I was balanced. I enjoyed the pictures in the book, especially the one with the incorrect movements.

I started the tapping exercise thinking this is weird! I ended it thinking this is great! I need to do more of these tapping and breathing exercises! LOL All the stretching and breathing exercises were wonderful too! It helped my aches and pains and again helped me become aware of the "chunks" in my back that do not move individually.

My mind is a whirl lately. I am still very sad about my Mom dying in March. She used to come and visit NY in the fall to see the fall colors. I am flying to MI approximately every 5 weeks to check on my 80 year old Dad and pack up my Mom's things. My chair is asking for our input on the spring schedule, but changing our class assignments. And I am barely talking to one of my three siblings. ARGH!! But I am finding the deeper I get into this YTT, the more joy I find on my mat, reading the meditation book, and at the yoga studio. Yesterday I went to a new medical provider and was getting anxious as I waited for her wearing only a paper gown. I remembered the simple way we started our last YTT review: taking long deep breaths and placing both feet on the floor. I did that while I waited and my blood pressure was lower than it has been in a long time. YEAH ME!!

Any pose that includes a twist makes me feel tension, especially any revolved twist pose. So I have learned to find my edge, even if that means I am not twisting very far. I have learned the hard way that if I twist too far my back is not going to feel good the next day. Pigeon pose can make me feel compression. I am very flexible and can do pigeon pose unassisted with both hips on the ground. Over time and many trips to the chiropractor, I have learned that this version of the pose does not serve me as the right side of my sacrum goes out of place. And that makes my sciatica worse. Sensations include: sharp, throbbing, shooting pain down my right leg. OUCH!!
